The New Revised Standard Version is a global translation, produced by and intended for readers throughout the English-speaking world. It was developed by the National Council of Churches of Christ in the USA, which brought together an international team of translators, including British scholars.
Its international appeal has inspired publishers to produce Bibles in a variety of different formats, from pocket New Testaments to study Bibles and electronic versions.
While words and idioms were carefully chosen to be immediately comprehensible to all English speakers, the original NRSV text uses US spelling, punctutation and numbering style. Some churches and schools may find this distracting, preferring British English. Given the high standing of the NRSV in these circles, Cambridge offers Bibles using the NRSV Anglicized Edition as well as the original NRSV.
